Table of Contents

The EUMaster4HPC Summer School 2026 entitled “Emerging Trends in High-Performance Computing” will take place from 5 to 14 July 2026 at the Marienthal Youth Center and the University of Luxembourg in Belval, Luxembourg.

The University of Luxembourg is a leading European research university, renowned for excellence in science, engineering, and technology. Its modern facilities and vibrant academic community provide an inspiring environment for this specialised programme.

The Summer School programme will be organised around the evolution of HPC across AI-driven, quantum, data-centric, and sustainable computing paradigms. It will address the integration of AI workloads, focusing on scalability, performance-energy trade-offs, and algorithmic co-design. A dedicated session will explore quantum computing, emphasising hybrid quantum-classical approaches and the maturity of quantum technologies for scientific use. Subsequent sessions will examine data-intensive HPC, cybersecurity and system resilience as cross-cutting challenges that shape reliable and secure computational infrastructures. Industry-led site visits will provide practical insights into real-world system design and energy management. The programme will conclude with sessions on sustainable HPC, linking architectural, algorithmic, and data-driven advances to long-term scientific impact.

External Master’s students can apply until 30 May 2026.

Academic programme

Lectures will cover AI–HPC convergence, sustainable and energy-efficient computing, digital twins and smart cities, finance and data-driven governance, quantum acceleration, and European processor initiatives. Lecturers are drawn from the EuroCC2 project, the University of Luxembourg, EUMaster4HPC partner institutions, and invited international experts.

Industry programme

Companies and research organisations will contribute hands-on sessions highlighting HPC applications in AI, fintech, sustainability, and advanced engineering. Participants will also visit leading HPC companies based in Luxembourg.

Social Programme

Details on social activities will be announced soon.

Location

The Summer School will be hosted primarily at the Marienthal Youth Center, a venue surrounded by nature that offers accommodation and working spaces reserved exclusively for participants.

The opening and closing ceremonies will take place at the University of Luxembourg campus in Belval, one of Europe’s most innovative academic hubs.

Accommodation

Students will have the privilege to stay in Marienthal Youth Center, a former Monastery, that existed since 1232, acquired in 1974 by the State and made available to the National Youth Service (SNJ). The estate, which currently extends over an area of about 7 hectares, was declared a National Monument in 2002 and inaugurated as a Youth Center in 2016.

Accommodation at the Youth Center Marienthal is provided in a total of 18 rooms distributed across three floors. Rooms are available for 2, 6, or 8 occupants, offering a communal and collaborative environment for participants. Each floor is equipped with two rooms of each size, allowing for a total capacity of 96 people.

Students who prefer to stay at a hotel off-campus may do so at their own expense, but they will need to arrange their own transport to and from the site.

Catering

Breakfast is included for students staying in Marienthal, alongside two coffee breaks a day and lunch. Breakfast and set-menu lunches will be served in Marienthal’s cafeteria.

Travel and Transportation

Getting to Marienthal

Marienthal Youth Center is located approximately 25 km from Luxembourg Airport (Findel). Luxembourg is the first country in the world to offer free public transport nationwide; participants can reach the venue from the airport or the central train station via a combination of trains and buses at no cost. A taxi ride from the airport takes around 30 minutes and costs approximately 60–70 euros. Get more details on the Marienthal venue.

Discover Luxembourg

Luxembourg is a vibrant European capital and a major technological hub, perfectly situated in the heart of Western Europe. It is exceptionally well-connected to all major European cities by direct flights or via high-speed TGV train (only 2 hours from Paris). Bordering France, Germany, and Belgium, the country is also easily accessible by road or rail from across the continent. Its central location makes it an ideal starting point for exploring the Greater Region or other European landmarks during the summer.

Visa Information

As Luxembourg is part of the Schengen Area, there is no visa requirement for passport holders from EU/EEA countries. For participants from other countries, a short-stay Schengen visa may be required. We recommend checking the official Guichet.lu portal for specific requirements and if a visa is required, please let us know and start the application process early if needed. The University shall provide you with an invitation letter for the application.
