Roberto Neglia exemplifies academic excellence in High-Performance Computing (HPC), as his journey not only showcases his scholarly achievements but also highlights his leadership and commitment to scientific research. As a distinguished EUMaster4HPC student, Roberto has already made significant contributions.
Roberto began his academic career at Politecnico di Milano. He quickly distinguished himself as one of the top students in his Master's programme in HPC Engineering. In fact, he achieved an exceptional GPA of 29 out of 30 and earned the “Best Freshman” award. Subsequently, Roberto continued his double degree at Università della Svizzera Italiana while pursuing further knowledge. Throughout this period, he excelled academically while actively participating in international projects and competitions.
Moreover, Deloitte selected Roberto for an internship due to his outstanding academic achievements. He also received the “International Competitions” award from Politecnico di Milano, further recognising his talents. Consequently, his leadership skills emerged as he led teams in coding and data science challenges, including the EUMaster4HPC challenge. His ability to guide teams, combined with his supportive nature, earned him respect among his peers.
In addition, Roberto focuses on scientific advancement through his Master’s thesis, titled “Exploring Generative AI for Drug Repositioning and Design.” He is particularly passionate about applying HPC to life sciences. His work encompasses drug design, personalised medicine, and simulating neurodegenerative diseases. For instance, he researched prion simulations using university clusters to tackle critical health challenges.
Beyond his academic achievements, Roberto actively builds community. He successfully coordinated a team of 30 for the 2023 Open Days at Politecnico di Milano, where he promoted the newly launched HPC Engineering programme. Furthermore, his leadership extends to tutoring younger students in mathematics and physics, which demonstrates his commitment to helping others succeed.
As an EUMaster4HPC ambassador, Roberto significantly enhances the programme’s visibility. He actively fosters collaboration among students and professionals.
